- Water Themed Bricolage (April 24 -May 26) Bricolage has a theme this year!! “Bricolage”-A spontaneous and organic creative technique where art is constructed from whatever materials are on hand. Often a diverse range of things can happen in this “tinkering” method using found or recycled materials.
Water!! In honor of Earth Day we are adding a twist to our traditional Bricolage show by focusing on water. Water is a precious resource shaping life and death. Calm and reflective to turbulent, the driving force of water changes the world we inhabit. Water dramatically lends itself to the organically creative process, Bricolage, in the smooth polish of rock, glass, shell and wood left behind to the sharp reflective mirrors and rusty patinas, and by its own fluidity and changing nature. The goal this year is for our artists to harness the creativity of this element and express how it affects our world through their Bricolage pieces. Art will be accepted for this exhibition April 16-21 during our normal business hours at ArtSpace, 459 Main Street, Placerville 95667.

- NEW MORNING YOUTH SHELTER NEEDS ART! The newly opened New Morning Youth Shelter has a need to have some wall space filled with sound absorbing art and affirmations on the walls. The floors are concrete & the walls are large so it feels cold and commercial. Art is a need for those who have too much sadness and the shelters walls may be the only place they get the exposure. The Paint Spot has committed to providing free paint, mostly from returns, and there are also a few large donated empty frames that could be used. To volunteer contact Bea Crosson: bea.crosson@comcast.net or (530) 676-7166.
The shelter is located at 211 New Morning Court (off Ray Lawyer Drive) in Placerville. See http://www.newmorningyfs.org/
- Zafia’s Family House is looking for someone to create for them a metal stamp with the house logo. The metal stamp would be of the logo found on the top right of the website (the little house with the people). The size would be between 10 and 15 mm. We will be using it to stamp on metal blanks or charms, sterling silver and brass, that will be turned into jewelry and other items that can be sold to raise money for the ongoing needs of the house. The budget for this is very tight (trying to get the house built!) We are looking for artists to give us a bid to create the stamp, or donate this to Zafia’s Family house as a supporter of the cause.
Zafia’s Family House is dedicated to providing overnight and/or long term accommodations in a family-centered, homelike, supportive environment to families with members in Kaiser, Sutter, UC Davis or other local medical community hospitals. Six private family bedrooms with baths are available at Zafia’s Family House, as well as shared areas including a kitchen with a fully stocked food pantry, a library with Internet access, a relaxing television lounge and laundry facilities.
The house will be located next to or very close to Kaiser Hospital in Roseville, where there is a pediatric cancer unit. Please contact Elena Tucker, esbtucker@gmail.com , for more information or submitting a proposal for this project.
