1000 Poems on Main Street
Be on the lookout for Graffiti Poetry
Following on the heels of enthusiastic
county-wide participation in the
successful and exciting National Poetry Out Loud competition,
residents, poets and poetry lovers will read, recite and post poems
that speak to their hearts and souls at venues along Main Street. The
evening will include the usual art, dining and shopping opportunities
associated with the Placerville Artwalk (3rd Saturday) events of past
years. This
kick-off event promises to lure poets from all corners of the county.
In the passionate words from our county Poetry Out Loud finals:
"Poetry is here. Don't be afraid... Poetry is here. Be very afraid."
Poetry
will lurk and pounce from several venues in Downtown Placerville,
branching out from the giant Participation Glass at the brand new
ArtSpace gallery at EDAC (El Dorado Arts Council), 459 Main Street,
Placerville, CA. The Red Fox Underground Poets will be reading poems at ArtSpace (459
Main St) from 6-7pm as part of the Artists Reception for EDAC's
Bricolage show. If you'd like to participate as a poet, reader or
guerrilla Haiku graffiti-artist, contact ArtWalk@eldoradoartscouncil.org. If you just want to see what 1,000 poems on Main Street looks like, simply show up. But be prepared ... for poetry!
Future
ArtWalk themes will include "Beatnik Bebop", "Midnight Blues" and
"Retro Future". Mark your calendars for upcoming Third Saturdays! |

Full Glass inspired by May Sarton's poem A Glass of Water. Images of glass, inner reflection, and well being. Artist reception: June 19
A GLASS OF WATER Here is a glass of water from my well. It tastes of rock and root and earth and rain;
It is the best I have, my only spell, And it is cold, and better than champagne.
Perhaps someone will pass this house one day To drink, and be restored, and go his way,
Someone in dark confusion as I was When I drank down cold water in a glass,
Drank a transparent health to keep me sane, After the bitter mood had gone again.
