Red
Fox Underground Poets
Friday, July 22,
7-8pm at ArtSpace
Hosted by El
Dorado Arts Council and Red Fox Underground
Our
featured poet is Monika Rose. A short poetry open-mic
follows (signup before the feature). Ms Rose,
from Calaveras County, edits Manzanita:
Poetry and Prose of the Mother Lode and Sierra, and has
been widely published. She also runs Manzanita Writers Press. Her new
collection of poems, , is available on her
website (www.monikarosewriter.com) and soon on
Amazon and Barnes and Noble. She is working on a humorous thriller
novel and also a book of WWII stories. Here is a sample of
one of her poems:
Solitude
Pick out one face
In the crowd of Sweet
Williams
Like all the others
And it calls to you
What makes you choose
This particular one
For a brief moment
Of anomaly?
A slightly deeper purple,
maybe
A more defined burst of white
A larger crown or taller stem
Sends its head higher than
others
Maybe this one selects
You in the crowd of human faces
Choosing your face
From all the others
- Monika Rose
from River by
the Glass
You might also
enjoy "Poetry in Motion," a poetry read-around at the
Placerville Senior Center on Monday, July 25 from 6-7pm.
